Why Fundraising

How are you going to help people?

  • Donating half of the projects’ funding to charities. We want to stress that we are not doing this for the money, NOT AT ALL!!!
  • Giving people a hell of a good rocking time by playing acoustic guitar “rock” shows in the visited communities for the disabled, the orphan and the poor.
  • Preparing material for a photographic book tentatively titled “Journey to the West – Rock in Hard Places” documenting the adventure, the people and the places
  • Writing travelogues and articles about the people we meet and interview them for several printed and digital media in order to give exposure to otherwise hidden talent
  • Teach people in the visited communities how to manage their artistic output (music, video, writing etc.) by organizing lectures and workshops

Marco will record interviews, take pictures and write articles about anything he sees/meets during his trip back to Europe. He will be helped by Malaysian photographer and avid traveler Kit Yeng Chan, famous for her AK-47ish style of picturing… this means that every great moment will be caught on film and digital video.

We did it before in Aluthgama, Sri Lanka visiting the school projects for poor kids from the rural areas provided by Helianto association in Switzerland. Look at this short video:

Now, it is time to do it again, bigger style!!

How we will spend the money pledged

  • Charitable donations to some of the hosting organizations, through our NGO partner Travel for Aid
  • Visa applications, passport sized pictures, photocopies and everything related to the bureaucracy involved in accessing the target communities by land
  • Cover some of the overland transportation costs
  • Assist with possible audio/video recording equipment damage over the period of traveling and recording
  • Shipment of parts of the recorded data by express courier to Marco’s family home in Italy, to avoid loss of important material
  • Purchase materials to be used during the performances in the host organizations along the trip
  • On the road rental needs, such as practice rooms or studios, in order to record more professional material in some selected cases and areas
  • Contributing to our living expenses on the road, such as food, some hostel accommodation, medicines and whatever else.
  • Expenses incurring in the production of the photographic book, website maintenance, international post, writing and editing of the material etc.
