NAZI GORENG reviewed by Jim Algie in The NATION Thailand

Last Sunday, my debut novel NAZI GORENG was reviewed by Thailand old hand, former bassist of Canadian pop-punk-country band THE ASEXUALS and author extraordinaire of “Bizzarre Thailand” and “The Phantom Lover and Other Thrilling tales of Thailand”, Jim Algie.

What to say, with such a reviewer and self-proclaimed “weirdsmith” holding the pen, I was expecting to be publicly flagellated in the tabloid pages of one of Thailand’s most prominent English newspapers.

To the contrary, I got one of the most positive reviews so far. One that is worth all the hard work I put into writing a book in a second language.

Algie says “in exposing Malaysia’s dark side through the light of literature, Ferrarese has bravely travelled to a place where few, if any, authors have gone before, in a promising and harrowing debut that marks him as a writer to keep both eyes on.”

My take on Love and Long-Term Travel

March 01, 2014 By: Marco Ferrarese Category: English, Marco Ferrarese writing Visited: No Comments →

Some people buy flowers, gifts or expensive dinners to their fiancees.
I, to the contrary, publish a story on the challenges of an interracial, on the road relationship on one of the world’s most appreciated travel sites, BootsnAll.

Here’s an excerpt:

“Please, stay one more night. I’m organizing a Couchsurfing meeting tomorrow, you’d be most welcome to join us,” a local who had taken care of me proposed me to stay.

“Why not?” I said.

I found myself sitting around a crowded table, an empty chair at my right side, and all the others but two at the opposite far end occupied. The conversation was OK, but again, I had seen it all for the past ten months, from the Gobi desert to all the obvious Shangri-las and any other bucolic traveller hideout in-between.

Then she walked into the room.

She, a petite, smiling and sexy girl, looked around to choose where to sit. And mind you, I didn’t hint at her to come by; she just walked towards me, pulled the chair and sat right at my side. The rest is a very long story that, to make short, ends up with renting an apartment in Penang, me going back to university and working to become a freelance writer, as I woke up every morning to see her lovely face snooze over the pillow next to mine. With, of course, tons of travel freedom and bliss in-between.”

Read the rest here, and share the love with whoever you think might need.

Some press updates on my first book Nazi Goreng

February 22, 2014 By: Marco Ferrarese Category: Asia, Asian Punk/Metal, English, Malaysia, Marco Ferrarese writing, Music Visited: 1 Comment →

Last month has been quite full of activities and I haven’t had much time to upload the blog, sorry. I’m being busy as never before with, well… writing. Which should be good news for someone who wanted to do it full-time, correct? More good news are, my debut novel, Nazi Goreng, is going quite strong in Malaysia and abroad. I also made it into Borders’ Fiction Top 10. Thank you very, very much, to everyone who bought and read my book.

I recently had some interesting press attention, which I’d like to share with you.

First of all, I made it on Malaysia’s national radio. Listen to a fantastic Podcast interview for Night on Earth, titled the Power of Ideas, on Kuala Lumpur’s premiere radio station BFM98.8. Host She Fah Szetu presents an interview with my unconventional self about writing Nazi Goreng, living in Malaysia and what I know about kuasa melayu. No cuss words, this time around :-) Tune on the podcast here. (My segment start at 17 minutes) Download the Podcast here. (more…)
