NAZI GORENG weekend launch in Singapore

November 05, 2013 By: Marco Ferrarese Category: English, My Books Visited: No Comments →

The next weekend Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th of November, I will be traveling to Singapore to meet up with Monsoon Books team and talk about my debut novel Nazi Goreng at two fantastic venues.

First of all, on Saturday 9th from 6.30 to 8 pm I will be talking at the amazing Substation Classroom, the home of the Alternative Arts in Lion City… oh yeah. This will be an unofficial book launch for subcultural lone wolves, where I expect to discuss this interesting phenomenon called Kuasa Melayu in more detail…  Thanks immensely to Shaiful at Prohibited Projects for having organized all of this last minute. After my talk, stay on for an evening of performance and death/grind music blended together for the Tribal Gathering of Tongue Tasters.

Don’t forget that on November 10th at 2.30 pm I will be officially launching Nazi Goreng at the Singapore Writers Festival 2013. Details on the event are here. Come to the Festival pavillion at Green Campus, Singapore Management University!

I remember that BOTH EVENTS ARE FREE, and books will be available for purchase.

Nazi Goreng by Marco Ferrarese is out now on Monsoon Books

All systems go: my debut novel Nazi Goreng is available now from Monsoon Books, Singapore. I am extremely happy and excited about what will happen next!!

Here’s a shorter synopsis:

“Nazi Goreng is a disturbing story of one young Malay man’s coming-of-age in the big city and offers a stunning portrait of the racial tensions that pervade Malaysian society. Asrul is a fanatical yet naïve Muslim skinhead from small town Kedah, who finds escape in hardcore punk and aspires to life in the big city. After Asrul is recruited by friend Malik to join a neo-Nazi skinhead gang, the boys move to Penang to realise their racially fuelled teenage dreams.

Petty acts of ethnic violence against immigrant workers and minority groups in the name of Kuasa Melayu (Malay Power) earn Asrul limited social empowerment and occasional ridicule, so it is not without trepidation that he follows Malik again, this time into the seedy world of the Malaysian narcotics trade, where selling drugs offers quick money and street respect.”

Non-Asian readers, fear not as the book’s available in both paperback and eBook editions in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the USA. If you are in Southeast Asia, look for it in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand. The book will be available through Amazon in the next few days, please be patient. The Great News: Now I am a Published Writer

September 30, 2013 By: Marco Ferrarese Category: English, My Books Visited: 9 Comments →

I have been keeping this thing pretty confidential, first of all because it’s been hard to believe it myself,  and second because it’s been a lot of work, up and downs, and waiting. I gave a hint of good times to come here, but apparently, not many people understood. For certain, nobody asked. Well, having spent many long hours at my desk in this bizzarre year 2013 has proven to be a fruitful decision, as things have finally taken the right turn. This means that when you cast three wishes in a Beijing temple – I won’t say which one to avoid spoiling my own luck, boys and girls – , and you actually stick to good practice like a drunk ram, over and over against the same target, they EVENTUALLY come true.

Well, I thought some people may have understood that I had a book coming out, but no one did. And I thank the few who were in the known, to have kept the secret as such until now.

(...this is just a tease... just a little cover tease really...)

So, as of today, as soon as I got word that the book is actually off the press and ready to start its creepy crawling way into the real circuit of real book distribution, I can pat myself on the back and announce it: MY FIRST ENGLISH WRITTEN NOVEL IS OUT NOW. And no, it’s not a travel book. And is not even a self-published work. It’s a REAL book on a REAL publisher, and it’s a novel. Hence, technically, now I am a published writer, oh yes.

This book is set in a Malaysia you have never read before, and is destined to be a lil’ party wrecker… you know me, right? It’s going to be one of the baddest new kids on the bookstore’s block for sure, and it is hopefully destined to entertain, raise some heads, and picture a little bit of healthy fictional Malaysian social horrors.

As of today, I just want to give you the great news: once again, my debut novel Nazi Goreng has just been released by Singapore’s publisher Monsoon Books. Check on their catalog for the moment being, as new information will be updated on their website in the next few weeks. I will give you a lot more details about retailers and purchase information in the next few days. Meanwhile, if you want to participate to my merriness by leaving a comment below, I’d be happy to read and rejoice. Amen, for now.
