Yes!! you read it right: on October 10th, 2012, me and Kit completed an overland adventure started in Singapore four months before. Four months on the road – with the imperative rule: avoid any flights- , that took us from Singapore through Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, China, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia back to my motherland of Italy…
I perfectly know that I have been slacking updates and the site has been almost blocked for the past couple months, but when you are burn out from the road, with flimsy internet connections requiring 50 minutes to compile an email, I preferred to concentrate more on what I was doing: travelling.
Furthermore, I decided that such an adventure would be wasted if published as blog posts on a website… I think it deserves more than that; I have a project coming up in the near future.
I have been in Italy for about 17 days, and if on one hand it was very sufficient, it was not definitely enough to catch up with all the friends I have dispersed across the infamous boot. I am sorry about that folks, I tried my best to let you all know, but I couldn’t travel all over the peninsula for you. A mention of honor goes to my old pals in Voghera. Great times spent with the other three quarters of The Nerds Rock Inferno, my old glorious band. Boss, Taccio, Pollo… these guys definitely deserve better than what they have down there in gray Voghera!
I do not want to comment on my vision of today’s Italy : I will possibly leave it for another post, or better, just to myself. I can only say that after 5 years, and seeing it as “another country” it did not feel that bad… but certainly, I am better off where I am: back in Malaysia.
For now, cheers from a steamy and rainy Kuala Lumpur, where the next step of the adventure begins: doctoral studies on the anthropology of local punk and heavy metal… more on this soon as well.
